NEWS FROM SAM

Welcome readers! I'm glad you "clicked" in to see what I'm up to these days! Things are going well, with new work coming out soon. Here's what's happening so far...

Interesting Short Stuff I've Written Since My Last Book

Fiction

Success Story, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, March, 2006--probably the darkest piece I've ever written. An accountant turns to serial murder to deal with his mid-life crisis.

Love Story, Amazon Shorts, May, 2006 (available online)--many consider this the best piece I've ever done. Two people meet and fall in love on their way to commit suicide.

The Sin-Eater, Chicago Blues (collection,) edited by Libby Hellman, Bleak House, 2007. Not all grandmothers are nice.

The Stake, Dead Man's Hand (collection,) edited by Otto Penzler, Harcourt, 2007. My take on an old Jack London story called "A Bit of Steak." An old poker player tries to get his energy up for what might be his last game.

Day Job Stuff--Non-Fiction

Spend 90% on the Who, 9% on the What, and 1% on the How --The Art and Science of Branding, MBA in A Box (collection,) edited by Joel Kurtzman, Crown, 2004. Lots of applause for this piece.

Where do the great brands come from? Brandweek, October 11, 2004

Come Together (an article about co-branding,) Sam Hill and Steve Silver, CMO Magazine, July, 2005.

The Life of a Plan, Strategy + Business, Fall, 2005.--This is sort of a cool piece I did about how hard it is to become a writer late in life. My key insight? Put your ego in your pocket and leave it there.

Achieving the Ideal Brand Portfolio, MIT Sloan Management Review, Winter, 2005.

Three Keys to Making a Revenue Based Turnaround A Success, Sam Hill and Greg Rayburn, ABF Journal, November 2006.

I've also had various off-topic (i.e., not related to or about marketing) pieces appear in collections edited by Stuart Crainer and Regina Maruca. Of course, if you find anything not on this list, it's also possible I wrote it and forgot about it.  That happens with the non-fiction from time to time!
